We’re struggling against mediocre teams at the moment so I dread to think how we’re likely to play away to one of the top teams in Europe. Still, I think the injury to Gakpo and Salah’s absence might force some positive tactical changes in terms of relying less on wide players for attacking output. Given the selection challenges I’d opt for Szoboszlai on the right midfield as per usual in recent weeks and put Wirtz at left midfield. This formation describes how I expect us to behave out of possession but in possession I expect Wirtz to drift inside- he just needs to make sure he recovers quickly if we lose the ball (positionally). Szoboszlai might do this too but I would expect him to keep his width more when we’re in possession. The most contestable selections are probably the full back positions and Cml. I’ve opted for Mac Allister for his defensive output over Jones. I’ve opted for Robertson for his experience since it’s a big away game. I’ve opted for Bradley as he’s suspended for the weekend against Brighton. I expect Isak to work harder out of possession than he did against Leeds.
